CIRCULA COMPLEX:
The proven
effectiveness of Aromeopathy (Homeopathic aromatherapy) in combating
skin ageing.
Rapid development in
the field of cosmetology in the 21st century has aroused
great interest in medical specialists.
By synthesising the
effects of therapist, cosmetologist, dermatologist and surgeon,
cosmetology now not only considers aesthetics but also a medical science
approach.
This is understandable
as skin is the main barrier against negative environmental effects.
Unfortunately, external application of creams, masks, oils and serum is
not sufficient to rehydrate the skin as they can only superficially
penetrate.
A South African
company, Lilian Terry International, has developed a new field in
cosmetology namely homeopathic aromatherapy (aromeopathy). Synergy
between homeopathic ingredients and essential oils enable penetration to
the deeper layers of the epidermis and derma. These complexes applied
externally not only improve skin appearance but also influences
microcirculation, normalises the effect of metabolism and boosts the
hormonal and immunological function of cells. They are produced by
highly specialised methods based on the principal of therapeutic
compatibility.
Ongoing clinical
investigations of these products have indicated great effectiveness and
thus popularity in prematurely aged people who exhibit a high
sensitivity to sun radiation, dryness, a premature appearance of
wrinkles and couperose, hyper pigmentation and hyperkeratosis.
Scientific research has
shown that premature ageing will be more pronounced in the next decade
due to environmental factors such as global warming, increased sun
radiation, increased level of xenobiotics and high levels of daily
stress. Therefore, the tendency to use non-toxic, non-irritating and
hypoallergenic products that can prevent or delay the process of ageing
has become a very viable proposition.
The indicated effect
and purpose of homeopathic aromatherapy has been proven by a laboratory
investigation of skin biopsies taken from eighteen volunteers who used
one of the products, Circula complex, on a daily basis.
Circula
was formulated to improve the peripheral blood circulation and the
rheological activity of blood, decrease inflammation of peripheral blood
vessels – especially in the lower extremities, activate oxygen
penetration to the cells, normalise cellular hormonal activity and the
level of regeneration and also improve skin appearance.
The group of
participants consisted of early menopausal women from forty to fifty
years of age. Their main clinical complaints were of tiredness,
frequent hypertension, and lower extremity swelling at the end of the
day, varicose veins, irritable bowel syndrome with bloatedness,
constipation and general weight gain. The predominance of general
social factors showed chronic stress, mood swings, various levels of
depression, sedentary life style and smoking habits.
Skin biopsies of the
lower extremities were taken to analyse the epidermal and dermal
structure both before and after using Circula for a month.
Laboratory
investigation consisted of the generally accepted histological
investigations of the skin, namely cytochemical and
immuno-histo-chemical.
The former defined the
apoptosis (programmed cell death) index and anti-apoptosis gene bcl – 2
while the latter included the expression of monoclonal antibodies to
oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone.
Initial skin biopsy
showed:

Considerable thinning of the epidermis due to the thin basal layer

Sclerosis of blood vessels with lymphatic oedema
-
Increased amount of mature fibroblasts in derma.

Decrease in skin regeneration and an increase in mutagenic activity of
cells indicated by a decreased index of apoptosis and an increase in
anti-apoptotic gene bcl – 2 leading to more keratisation of epidermis.

Uneven location and reduced intensity of expression of the receptors to
oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone.
Skin appearance after
Circula application showed a considerable improvement in
colour and texture with a decrease in small wrinkles.

Increased epidermal regeneration indicated by an increased apoptotic
index FAS (Apo-1/95) from 35.3% to 47.4%;

Considerable decrease in anti-apoptotic protein bcl – 2 from 37.2% to
27.3% indicating decreased mutagenic change in epidermal cells and thus
more healthy cells.

Significant increase in hormonal activity of skin (expression of
oestrogen receptors up from 35.7% to 50.6% and also testosterone
receptors) resulting in improved elasticity and hydration levels.

Statistically proven changes in level of expression of receptors to
progesterone not established.
Thus results of these
clinical, cytological and immuno-histo-chemical investigations have
shown the remarkable effectiveness of the aromeopathic Circula
complex.
This non toxic
substance deeply penetrates and activates cell receptors of the
epidermis and derma.
An increase in
expression of receptors to oestrogen, testosterone and apoptosis index
with a simultaneous decrease of mutagenic activity of the epidermis
indicate a considerable improvement in the metabolic, hormonal and
defensive activity of the skin.
A daily application of
Circula increases elasticity, regeneration and hydration
of the skin with an overall improvement in peripheral blood circulation,
muscle tonus, energy levels, concentration, memory and sleeping pattern.
